Board of Directors

The Umpqua Valley Christian School Board consist of seven members who are selected by the school board and referred to the parents for confirmation. A nominee must be confirmed by 51% of votes cast for each position. Members serve a three year rotating term and following their first three-year term, members may serve a second three-year term if reconfirmed by students’ parents.

UVC is a non-profit corporation. The Board is responsible for ensuring that school decisions align with the mission, vision, and educational philosophy of UVC and they are the keepers of school policy. The only administrative function of the UVC Board is to supervise the Head of School. All monthly school board meetings are open to the school community.

Ray Hull

Ray Hull and his wife, Heather, chose UVC for their children 8 years ago.  Their two children are in 12th and 10th grade.   He works at Orenco Systems, Inc. as a Business Analyst.  As a team leader, he has experience in team building, motivating and evaluating staff.  Communication is key and he feels it should be timely, true, and reach all constituents.  He has a strong passion for teaching and has spent the last 13 years in children’s ministry sharing Biblical values so that each student is prepared for the work God has planned for them.  He and his family are attend Well Spring Bible Fellowship in Roseburg.
 
 

Bob Schissler

Bob Schissler and his wife Laurie have a long history with UVC. Each of their five children has attended UVC at some point in their education and Laurie has worked as office manager. Bob is passionate about ministry and Christian education. He is self-employed as an American Family Insurance agent. He feels his business experience as well as ministry experience, including serving as elder, is an asset to the board. He and his family are members of Wellspring Church.

 

Marlon Sewall

Marlon Sewall and his wife Heather have had their son Koby enrolled in UVC for since 2010. Marlon has been active in assisting with the basketball and track programs at UVC. He is employed as an electrician at Orenco Systems. A strong work ethic, good interpersonal skills, and a non-partial viewpoint are skills Marlon feels are essential for service on the UVC school board. Marlon and his family attend Redeemer’s Fellowship.


Jerry Smart

Jerry has been the Senior Pastor at Foursquare Gospel Center in Winston, Oregon since 2003.   Originally from Texas, he moved to Oregon when he was sixteen years old, graduated from Douglas High School in Winston, then went back to Texas for college.  He has attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas and Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.  Jerry has served as the President of the Winston/Dillard Ministerial Association, and he has served on the Board of Directors for LifeCare and the Douglas County Evangelical Fellowship in Roseburg. He and his wife, Marla, have three children, two girls and a boy.  Two of them are UVC graduates, one is a sophomore at UVC.  Jerry loves to study history, science, archaeology and religion.  He loves the outdoors and hopes to someday spend more time hiking and camping.
 

Seth Buechly

Seth is the owner of Cathedral Consulting (www.cathedralconsulting.com) where he leads a team focused on providing financial systems, strategy, and merger & acquisition support to emerging businesses and non-profits throughout the U.S..

Seth is an author, podcaster, and frequent keynote speaker. He and his wife, Helen have four children. One (Danni) is grown and married and the other three boys (Aaron, Evan and Joe) currently attend UVC.

Seth attends Covenant Life Fellowship and is involved on the board of several evangelistic Christian ministries.

Daletta Fong

Daletta Fong grew up east of Springfield, Oregon on the beautiful McKenzie River.  She attended college at Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho where she majored in Elementary Education. Her first teaching experience was in a tiny school where she taught a combined kindergarten through second grade class.  She and her husband Ward and their family lived for two years in France and over four years in Burkina Faso, Africa while serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators.  While in Africa Mrs. Fong homeschooled their two oldest children.  Since their return from Africa Mrs. Fong has taught kindergarten, first, and second grades in Christian schools.  Mrs. Fong enjoys long walks upon the beach, camping and hiking, sewing and knitting. She loves waterfalls and wildflowers and believes that one of the most wonderful things in the world is the joyful sound of children’s laughter.  The Fong’s attend Wellspring Bible Fellowship in Roseburg.
